On the other hand... if you're willing to use an existing picture, then
you can just copy a line in the oid_to_sym file, and add the object-id.

Be sure to make sure the OID is in the oid_to_type file also, though.

But... if you want to add new pictures, then James is correct.  You have
to build the bitmap and the mask, and then make sure you have enough sizes
for each specific symbol size.  You'll easily eat up a couple of days doing
this the 1st time!

This is not a trivial exercise.

To match an existing symbol that is already in NetView format to an OID,
you add entries to the /usr/OV/conf/C/oid_to_symbol file.   But if you just
have a bitmap to start with, then you have to create the symbol first.  I
suggest you start by reading Chapter 8, "Creating and Using Symbols" in the
Programmer's Guide (you should have installed it with the on-line books).
Just type in "dtxext" to bring up the book browser.

I have netview 5.1 on aix.  I would like to add a system object id and
point it
to a certain bitmap.  How do you do this?
