There was some discussion here in February about a Nortel Frame Relay
Access
Device returning an ifType of 0. The concensus was that this is clearly
incorrect,
and the customer (Carlos Lima Dias) was getting in touch with Nortel for
assistance
with device configuration. We did not hear back from him on this subject.
But
Netview was not able to correctly associate interfaces with the router.
The device was a 1.3.6.1.4.1.335.1.1.3

I had a big BLN at a recent customer, pretty up-to-date code level, that
had
278 interfaces. Netview 5.1.1 had trouble with the last 49 interfaces.
Switching
to the turbo format of the database at the recommendation of support solved
the
problem. So size should not be a problem. That ifType of 0, though.... The
enumeration starts with 1. Which just goes to show that lots of things can
be
operational and not be managable.

Cordially,

Dror would also like to ask the following question. This to anyone and Bay
in particular. He has given the information for the
Bay ip router below. Does anyone know of any problem that Netview 5.1.1
or any version has with this Bay router basically in sending
back snmp information correctly to Netview. Seems that it is sending back
admin down status when the router people say it is not
in admin down status. It is also sending back a 0 for the value of the
iftype.
So if anyone can help Dror, he would appreciate it. So would I.

Subject:

Customer has E30 512meg mem , aix 421 + latest ptf, fw 3.6 and nv 5.1.1
Install of machine is ok , no error .
Customer main router is bln-2 from bay network(ip router 131 rel 12.04)
The router has token ring, atm elan which are discovred ok .
Problem is with frame relay interface that are not discovered.
The frame relay interfaces have ip address, they are pingable and the
network function well.

bln box<-------------------------------->  igx cisco <---> cisco 3810
          dlci frame relay connections
        <-------------------------------->
many connection (for each physical 12 dlci )
total may be 48 connections
for example one connection ip address is
19.18.23.1 19.18.23.2
---------------------------------------------------------------------
As I said the roter is discovered and all networks attached to the
router except those of the frame relay.

To further diagnose the problem we did the following.
>From ipmap we selected the bln-2 router and click
monitor -> network config -> address
We so:

indexes address network mask network
------- ---------- ------------ ---------
77 19.14.23.12 255.255.255.252 19.14.23
16 17.3.17.1 255.255.255.252 17.3.17
and below list of all address avaialbe

This table is OK and nv detect frame relay ip address.
problem is when we look at
monitor -> network config -> interfaces
we see
index interface type mtu status + additonal fields
------ --------- ---- --- ------
1 s31 frame relay 384 up (this is the physical)
16 unknown 0 down
77 unknowd 0 down
and all the rest are type=unknown status=down
the only one that are up are the phisical....

For some reason nv does not read the frame relay interfaces....

Any body can help

Thanks Dror
