Parts of this question may have been addressed in earlier posts, but I
haven't been able to find them by searching my archives. Here's my problem:
Installed the 5.1.1 patch for Netview/NT yesterday; installation reported no
errors; upon restarting, however, I encountered the following situation:
-- demand poll ceased working (perhaps my object database has outgrown the
ovwdb cache?) Netmon is up and appears to healthy; snmpwalk works ok.
-- events/traps are no longer being collected; today's nv.log reports the
following:
04/29/99 09:19:49 [trapd] trapd caught exception, attempting to recover
04/29/99 09:19:52 [trapd] Trapd: (odbcThread) SQL error from executing
prepared SQL statement: to add events record 04/29/99 09:19:52 [trapd]
SQLError itself returned error -2 (00000) 04/29/99 09:19:52 [trapd]
exception in do purge
04/29/99 09:19:52 [trapd] trapd caught exception, attempting to recover
04/29/99 09:19:57 [trapd] Trapd: (odbcThread) SQL error from executing
prepared SQL statement: to add events record 04/29/99 09:19:57 [trapd]
SQLError itself returned error -2 (00000) 04/29/99 09:19:57 [trapd]
exception in do purge
04/29/99 09:19:57 [trapd] trapd caught exception, attempting to recover
...and so on, for 50+ pages.
Possible solutions: upgrade the sql server odbc driver? It's current at
2.5, no service patches were installed to sql server 6.5. All core odbc
drivers are 3.x. Previous failed attempts at using a more current driver
make me leery of going beyond 2.5.
Run ovtopofix? Haven't tried it yet, but did run ovw_config, ovw_fields,
ovw_verify. No positive results.
