Yes, I was performing a cut operation, but wasn't copying a symbol from all
submaps and pasting it into a single submap.
...and we've not modified the oid_to_type or oid_to_sym files since NV v5.1
was installed.
BTW,
The layer 2/3 devices that are exhibiting this type of behavior are Cisco
8540s........

Were you performing any cut/copy and paste operation?
Did you by change cut or copy a symbol from all submaps and paste it to one
submap?
Have you checked the oid_to_type and oid_to_sym files for correct entries?
Thanks Mark Sklenarik

Subject: Addition of Layer2/Layer3 switches to NV v5.1 database
To all,
During an attempt to add multiple layer 2/3 Gigabit Ethernet switches to
the NV v5.1 database, multiple copies of the same object appeared on the IP
internet map. With the understanding that I've verified that no duplicates
exist within our naming services, what else may cause these duplicates
shadowed icons ) to appear on the GUI?
Thanks,
