Hi all,

We are going through large changes in our network, some routers change
IP adresses, and some new routers are added. Among them, there
are a bunch of Cisco 7206VXR routers which I can't get Netview
to manage properly. I am not sure that it is related to the type of the
router, or related to their configuration, since due to the large amount
of changes their were some mistakes along the way (duplicate
IP addresses, wrong subnet masks, etc) which could have made
Netview discover wrong thinks that causes the problems with those
routers. Anyway, below I give some facts that I gathered, and may be
someone might have an idea:

- after adding the router name (i.e. corresponding to the IP address
of the loopback interface) in the seed file, the router was not discovered
  in Netview.
However, setting a collection that selects the router name, the collection
shows a blue box, showing that an object with this name exists
  in the database.

- tried many things to delete this object and discover again. Classic
things like ovtopofix and ovmapcount, but also brute force methods
(ovtopofix -r, delete with API functions, ...). Always same result.

- tried to set netmon trace option. I can see that the router replies
well to every SNMP request, than in the end I got the following :

 11:11:51 :addNodeToTopo(RNYORCV0.ciev.etat-de-vaud.ch) failed: Topology OK --
no error

............followed by dump of every interface of the router

- I tried to add the router manually in Netview. I add a Generic
gateway symbol, enter the correct selection name
(full DNS name), but when I go to the IP Map panel,
the field Hostname, IP Address and netmask are
already filled: the IP address is correct, but the
netmask is set to 255.255.252.0. This is wrong
since the address is the loopback interface
which uses a netmask of 255.255.255.255

- if I accept this information anyway, Netview tells me
that an object with this selection name already exists,
and propose to create a new symbol for this object.
I accept this, the symbol is created, then after a while
netview discover nearly all the interfaces of the routers and
changes automaticall the type of symbol from a generic
gateway to the correct Cisco 7206 Router symbol.

- the ATM interface of the router is however not discovered.
We use tag-switching, and the ATM interface has an IP address.
This is dicovered correctly on other Cisco routers.

- now the last thing: if I do a demand poll of this router, I get
  the message

"node 'RNYORCV0.ciev.etat-de-vaud.ch' not found, demand poll skipped"

Any help would be welcome,

Thierry
