So all nodes/objects discovered plus smartsets are keep in the topo/ovwdb
directories?

I believe the only data held in the SQL or Access DB are:
a) Event/trap info that would normally also be in trapd.log
b) SNMP collected data.
The topology & ovwdb are still in the standard/internal format.
