You order NetView 5.1 (an entire replacement product) and NetView 5.1.2 (which
is just a big patch) from Tivoli. You only
pay for the upgrade to NetView 5.1, because you get a year's free support with
that purchase, so 5.1.2 is yours free.
Then you do a migration, which in a nutshell means that you use a script we
give you to backup your data and customization
on the box you have. Then you would deinstall NetView V4, using SMIT, but I
would do a mksysb first so that you could always
come back to this point if you need to. NetView 5.1 comes with the Tivoli
framework, which you must install prior to
installing NetView. You install that according to the Release Notes supplied,
and then use it to install NetView 5.1. When
you install NetView 5.1, it finds your backup data and merges it in with the
new NetView it installs. Then you install the
5.1.2 patch, again per the Release Notes, and now you are current.
If you want to install on a different box than where your V4 is, you can do
that instead, and you can ftp your migrated data
over to the new box, so that it will install an updated clone of your current
system if you wish. Making the backup does not
deinstall NetView V4 so you can continue to run the old one in parallel if you
like. Is this clear?

Hi James,
Could you outline the upgrade path to the latest version (is it 5.2).
Regards

You are aware of course that NetView V4 is out of support everywhere except
Japan.
