See the man page on nvpage.

Basically, if you want to send alphanumeric messages, then you have to have a
pager from a company which supports having a computer dial in to them and give
them an ID (your Personal Identification Number) so they can determine whom to
send the message to. Otherwise you can only send numeric messages. Since you
have to ask the company which number to dial (it isn't the same one a human uses
-- this one has a modem and is answered by a computer) they should be able to
tell you everything about what modem speed and settings they expect.

The nvpage command does support direct dial of a pager number but then again you
can only send a numeric message.
The paging icon in a ruleset is for paging with a PIN number only. If you want
to do direct dial, then you have to use an action node with the nvpage command
in it.

Subject: paging

Hi All,

I'm trying to get the pagin utility working. I'm running AIX 4.3.3, Netview
5.1.1 and Nways 1.2.3.
I was setting up a user id with paging options. It asked for a PIN. What is
the pin number? IS this specific to each pager? Is it just the phone number
of the pager?

Sorry for the newbieness of the question!

Cheers

Matt
