Background Picture

Hello,
I´ve got a simple question. I want to use a background picture
in some of my submaps. I managed it to display an *.xbm graphic
(only b/w pictures), but not any gif files. The error message when
I try to open the gif file is:
"Background file not found."
I´ve got the right file name and the file is readable for all.

Is there any special gif-format to use??

I´m using Netview 5.1.1 on a AIX 4.3.2 machine.
