We are running a SNMP Proxy Agent to proxy for handheld computers that do not
support SNMP.
The proxy agent seems to work properly, but as soon an netmon discovers one of
these proxied computers, it polls the proxy agent continuously several times a
second for the same MIB variables (from the ip and interfaces subtrees), which
incurs considerable CPU and network overhead.
The only way that I have been able to stop the polling has been to stop netmon
or the proxy agent.
netmon is run with the -P and -J flags. With netmon tracing turned on, I see
no particular problems with the proxied responses.
The NetView event log shows no events related to these proxied devices that
indicate a problem.
What might I be doing to provoke such behavior from netmon?
