Well, the MIBs should work just fine from any platform. I've used
them many times without bothering with the application itself at all.
If the traps happen to be defined in the MIBs, you should be able
to get them out with mib2trap. And the MIBs allow you to monitor
all sorts of wonderful variables on those boxes which are running
the CIM agent.
If those agents are configured to monitor their own thresholds, and
have their trap destination set to the Netview server, then you will
get traps, and you will need to format those traps. If you can install
the application on Netview (eg on AIX), then you get some icons
representing certain (mostly hardware) resources, and the traps
make them change color, or they change when you ask them to
update the status. You can do the same thing with MLM/APM
and the MIBs, the difference being that this way Netview is doing
polling, as opposed to getting updates by exception from the node.
Hope this helps. It has been a while and is a bit hazy at this point.
Cordially,

Folks,
According to the Compaq web site, only the Compaq Insight Manager for
Netview is available on AIX. I have a need for it also, but may be SOL
since I run NV on Sun. Please correct me if I am wrong, I'd love to be
wrong here.
Thanks
Jim

You can get from www.compaq.com the product "Compaq Insight Manager for
NetView".
The install-script modify the trapd.conf.

Let's start at the beginning.
What problem are you trying to solve?
Are you getting traps which say "NO FMT FOUND" from CIM?
In that case, you need to define them to trapd. But merely Loading a MIB
in
NetView will not modify any trap definitions.
You would have to run mib2trap and then run the addtrap output of
mib2trap to
add the new trap definition.
But is that your problem? If not, then what exactly is the problem you
are
trying to solve?
And are you talking NetView for NT or NetView for UNIX? And what level
exactly?
It is important that you make a distinction because the procedures can be
different.

Does anyone know if the MIBs provided by Compaq for CIM is supported on
the
NetVIew version 5.x platform. We followed the instructions provided by
Compaq but are unable to get any traps converted or events showing any
information.
Anyone with additional information please respond.
