When using NetView with a RDBMS, you install the database component and
run the appropriate SQL scripts from /usr/OV/scripts. You also have to
create the RIM object by which NetView talks to the RDBMS. Then you
configure NetView to use the RDBMS which creates your file
/usr/OV/conf/dbconf.dat.
Now this dbconf.dat generally has a line in it (by default) which says
"netview@<netview server name>" with your NV server name
appropriately specified. I generally run with my RIM host on a
different m/c from my netview so this default doesn't work. I simply
edit dbconf.dat to specify the exact name of my RIM object in my Tivoli
database (usually netview), NOT netview@nvserver. The RIM object then
knows the database type, server location, database user, etc. This has
always worked for me and I have never had any success with the
RIM@server syntax.
Question is, why the @servername syntax as the default?? Am I going to
get bitten in the future by not using this? Has anyone made it work?
Any insights gratefully appreciated,
Jane
