Yes, the pages work fine, I was just sparing you the details of the
syntax...
on the 'date' item, I see where you're coming from now...thanks again.

Subject: nvpage on IT Director Edition of NetView for NT (was RE: [NV-L]
quick question re NodeUp trap variable)
Well, that's a whole different kettle of fish.
Are your pages working, because nvpage <number> is not the correct syntax.
You could do nvpage <number1> <number2> if you are using a direct-dial
service but in that case you can only send number2 to number1 as that is
numeric only.
To send text you must have an alpha paging service and define your carrier
in the nv.carriers file. Then you would type in
nvpager pin@carrier <alpha message>
See \usr\ov\doc\pager.readme for details. Do you have one of those? I
don't know what was shipped with IT Director edition. You are correct that
there are no fixes available for it and replacement is your only option. I
cannot tell you what happened to your 6.0 upgrade or even if there ever as
one -- you'll have to take that up with Tivoli marketing. I' m sorry. But
we didn't package or ship what you have. Someone else did. It also
explains why $T is always "1" in your case, since that bug was fixed after
your version was shipped. I wish I could be more help here but I cannot
be.
As far as "date" goes, I was talking about UNIX "date" and not NT "date".
They are very different commands and I don't know how to get NT's to do
what you want. But basically I think you need to write a script or a bat
file of some kind which will format the message you want to send and call
nvpage to send it. You would have that script (tcl? perl? rexx?) execute
from trapd.conf rather than just the nvpage command. But writing that's
not within my expertise on NT. Perhaps someone else who reads this can
help.
Hope this helps somewhat,

That sounds fine...what's the syntax (I've tried nvpage <number> "date"
'date' date and $date)?
I'm using the dumbed-down IT Director Edition of Netview which I believe
was
abandoned as far as patches and future releases go...at least that's what
tech support claimed when 6.0 was released and I inquired about an update
to
the IT Director edition.
Cheers,
Chris

Why not just send the current time using "date"?
It won't be off by more than a second or two, since trapd will have only
logged just before calling your action. the differences aren't worth
worrying about if what you want is the time the event was logged. As for
the time sent, if all you are seeing is a "1" what version of NetView are
you using? That was an NT bug we fixed some time ago.
