Question about NV polling

Is it correct that in NetView the "Status Polling" checkbox controls whether
NV does pings to monitor device status?  The reason I ask is that I think
the NV manual's use of the word "polling" rather than "pinging" can be
confusing.  The NV manuals generally refer to "pinging" as "polling" - so
pinging can be confused with  SNMP polling.
