The APAR for the 1000 location limit in NetView Version 6.0, IY13286, has
already been closed as a limitation in the current design. The limitation
was documented in the release notes. I didn't work on it, but as I
understand it, the original design added over a Meg to the storage
requirements of ipmap, and that was as high as management was willing to go
due to the risk of causing performance problems or conflicts on currently
installed systems. While the internal table size in the 6.0 design could
be raised, every 1000 entries would raise the module another Meg, and this
was deemed unacceptable. A new design is being pursued for NetView 7.0
which bypasses the problem but it will not be retro-fitted into 6.0 because
it makes too many radical changes in ipmap.
I am sorry if the limitation causes you problems but it is doubtful that
you will see any changes by APAR.

Subject: Re: [NV-L] Please help
Try reading the Netview Installation & Configuration Guide in the chapter
for "Optional Configuration Tasks". Also the locations.conf file located in
/usr/OV/conf distributed with Netview 6.0 has a pretty good writeup in the
head of the file.
Beware, the locations.conf file has a limit of 1000 locations. Anything
above this will cause IP Map to conitinually connect and disconnect with
the trapd process. There is an APAR out for this but I have no idea when it
will be fixed.
1000 locations is nowhere near enough if you are a large bank....I just
can't believe Tivoli/IBM have sent the product out with this limit, as
large accounts really need this feature for automating the build of the
Internet Map.
For seed files, try looking at the help available for the netmon daemon.
I wonder whether James S knows if 6.0.2 will have the 1000 location limit
fixed ?
