There is nothing that a trap can include which can prevent it from being
displayed -- that is internal NetView configuration. You are missing
something Dan, I am just not certain what it is. Wanna try a trapd trace
(trad -T) and see if your MLM snmptrap really is getting there? How about
an nvcorrd trace, nvcdebug -d all, to see how it passes through the
forwardall.rs (or whataver ruleset) your events desk is running. But
something is amiss with your NetView as neither MLM nor any other agent can
choose not to have its traps displayed.

Subject: [NV-L] MLM version of smnptrap does not display in the default
      Netview Control Desk Event list

Hi,

I have found that the MLM version of snmptrap is not displaying its events
in the Netview control desk, but the Netview version does. Both versions
make their way to trapd.log on the Netview system. I have tried multiple
trap formats and log only is NOT turned on. Here is the syntax I am using:

MLM Version of snmptrap:

snmptrap 32.83.65.193 "" .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.41.2 usrdfwc000 6 1 0 0
octetstring "Test Switch Trap"
trapd output:
988327939 3 Thu Apr 26 19:32:19 2001 usrdfwc000 A Switch
usrdfw
c000 sends clogMessageGenerated trap. FMT ERROR: accessing element #4,
only 1 a
vailable

AIX version of smnptrap:

snmptrap 32.83.65.193 .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.41.2 usrdfwc000 6 1 0 0
octetStringAscii "Test Switch Trap"
trapd output:
988327748 3 Thu Apr 26 19:29:08 2001 usrdfwc000 A Switch
usrdfw
c000 sends clogMessageGenerated trap. FMT ERROR: accessing element #4,
only 1 a
vailable

trapd.conf output of the trap:
clogMessageGenerated {1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.41.2} 6 1 A 3 0 "Status Events"
Switch $A sends clogMessageGenerated trap. $4
EVENT_CLASS Nvserverd_Event
BEGIN_SLOT_MAPPING
 severity CRITICAL
END_SLOT_MAPPING
SDESC
When a syslog message is generated by the device, a
clogMessageGenerated notification is sent. The sending of these
notifications can be enabled/disabled via the clogNotificationsEnabled
object.
EDESC

On AIX, the mlm version is located in /usr/lpp/smmlm/original/. This
version is much easier to move to a non-Netview or MLM machine and run the
executable in a script. Disregard the FMT error, I know I didn't put a
var4 in the snmptrap syntax.

Is this an a bug in the MLM version of snmptrap or am I missing something
in the syntax or configuration ??

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance on your response !

AIX 4.3.3
Netview 6.0.2
MLM 5.0.6
