The contents of NetView trap variables are discussed in the Appendix A to
the Admin Guide.
As it says there, <none> is displayed if there is no applicable node
What trap are you looking at? If you are looking at "Network Critical"
or Segment Critical" for example then varbind 2 will be <none>.

You can format the event in trapd.conf using xnmtrap to display all the
variables so you can be sure what to code in your ruleset by adding $* to
the log message line.

I must be out of line here then.. I tried the $NVATTR_2 and it simply
returns "<none>"
Where can I get a list of these NVATTR_# variables for netview?

If it is a NetView trap then second variable, $NVATTR_2, contains the
hostname that the trap is about.

Hey Folks... Got one for ya

Running Netview 6.01 on Aix. (4.3.3 I think)

I have created a ruleset that will take an event of a critical nature and
pass it off to a series of scripts.
Problem I am running into is:

When the event is a trap coming from a router (for example) everything
works fine and the variable $NVA
shows the correct information.

If the event comes from netview, the $NVA variable is showing up as the
netview box itself.

Is there another variable or something that I can use to get the right
information?

Thanks
Brian
