That is the function provided by the Agent Policy Manager in Netview.
This is not enabled by default, and is a little tricky to set up, but it
uses
the MLM (either on the Netview server or installed elsewhere) to poll
specified mib variables and update the status of a symbol that it adds
to the node submap. You can read about the APM in the Administrators
Guide, and more about the MLM in the MLM manual. Both of these
books are installed online when you install the books component. You
should first read about it, then enable it, then try it, then ask your
questions here. Once you get an example working, adding more will
be fairly simple.

Subject: [NV-L] MIB item connected to symbol

Hello,

Is it possible that Netview can monitor a single MIB value wich is
connected
to a netview object/symbol. And that the color of this symbol is maintained
by the value (or translation) of the MIB item. We want to create a symbol
on
the node's submap indicating the status of a MIB item which is part of the
MIB file loaded into Netview.

Regards

Erwin Nijenhuis
