Thanks, James. I'll add that step to our upgrade procedures.

If pmd does not stop then that can only mean that he is stuck in some
privileged system call waiting for a response that never comes.
We changed the default options on pmd in 6.0.2 to prevent this problem, but
you are still running the old ones because you did an upgrade.
I would edit the /usr/OV/lrf/pmd.lrf file and remove all the options except
-m. We no longer support products which use CMOT, so there is no reason to
be running the -Au -At -Mu -Mt options. These could well be the source of
your difficulty. If some device in your network sends something to the
wrong port, and it happens to be the ones pmd is using for CMOT, then he
might well get into a loop trying to process garbage, or he might get stuck
waiting for a response which never comes.
So I would remove the CMOT options and re-register pmd with ovdelobj
/usr/OV/lrf/pmd.lrf and then ovaddobj /usr/OV/lrf/pmd.lrf

Subject: [NV-L] ovstop not completing on NV 6.0.2
Hi,
NetView for UNIX 6.0.2 on AIX 4.3.1
We recently upgraded our test NetView Server to 6.0.2 and a few times now
when we do an "ovstop" it hangs and never completes. When I did a ps
-ef|grep OV I got this:
root 4408 1 0 Jul 25 - 0:00 /usr/OV/bin/ntl_reader 0 1 1 1
1000 /usr/OV/log/nettl
root 14726 15226 0 Jul 25 - 0:50 /usr/OV/bin/nvsecd -O
root 15226 1 0 Jul 25 - 3:03 /usr/OV/bin/ovspmd
root 18194 22686 0 08:22:45 - 0:00 /usr/OV/bin/deathtrap -l 21
root 22686 15226 60 Jul 31 - 75:36 /usr/OV/bin/pmd -Au -At -Mu -Mt
-m
When we try to kill those processes, /usr/OV/bin/pmd does not terminate.
Even with a kill -9. So we end up having to reboot
the server.
I have a PMR open on this but Tivoli has not seen this reported by other
customers. Has anyone of you run into this with 6.0.2? We have been
running NetView on AIX for years and have never seen this behavior before
6.0.2.
Thanks,
