I haven't investigated much in the hardware monitoring area, but the UCD
SNMP agent (now called net-snmp) is publicly available (ie free) and has
some monitoring built in like load average, filesystem monitoring,
process monitoring. It also has a pass-thru mechanism whereby you can
ask the agent to run a command for you and return results. I'm guessing
you could do something with this for your hardware errors. It supports
SNMP V1, 2 and 3.

Check it out at http://www.net-snmp.com

Cheers,
Jane
