Dominic -
Try doing a little reading in the NetView User's Guide for Beginners and
the Administrator's Reference. You will be glad that you did. These
concepts are explained in great detail.
The seed file controls how netmon handles discovery. In it you put nodes
he must discover (the "seeds") plus other entries which control how other
things are handles, like HSRP addresses, nodes to polled only by SNMP and
never by ping, and ranges which are valid for discovery and so on.
xnmsnmpconf is the utility which allows you to alter the SNMP
configuration, which netmon, snmpCollect, and other processes will use.
Here you can set netmon's polling intervals and the community names he
should use.
Hope this helps

Subject: [nv-l] netmon and snmp configuration
hi, aix 4.3.3 and netview 7.1
What the difference between (netmon, seedfile) and (snmp configuration
polling in option/snmp configuration menu) ?
they do the same job ? or snmp configuration polling goes in mib database
?
thank
