Check your 6.0.3 release notes (also 6.0.2 I think).
event -b openview -e ACK_EV -a <objectid>
event -b openview -e UNACK_EV -a <objectid>
The object id in question is found in varbind 4 of the interface up/down
trap.
I forget which word it is - one of those bits if data is the object id of
the
node and one is for the interface. I do this unstead of overriding status.
Then you can still see what has been hidden by looking in your
Problems smartset, since Acknowledged things are still really
marginal or critical.

Manage/Unmanage
Leslie,
I have another question.
What is the Ack event of which you speak?
I have tried these:
/usr/OV/bin/acknowledgeUtil -export lists all of my acknowledged object IDs
/usr/OV/bin/acknowledgeUtil -import seems to be non-functional
Thanks,
Don Davis

Leslie,
It is about color. I was already blocking events (with a SmartSet) from
going to operations with a ruleset. Using the same SmartSet in a ruleset
(in ESE.automation) to override status works great. The interface
momentarily turns red followed by the node being acknowledged.
They will never notice that. I have found that from the time a node turns
red to the time someone responds can be as high as 27 hours......
Have a great Memorial Day weekend,
Best regards,
Don Davis

Don, is this about color, or about notification during a maintenance
window?
For color, have you considered automatic acknowledgement? In the Interface
Down event in varbind 4 there is the object id you need to issue the Ack
event that will green up the map. I've done that from a ruleset that
includes
an action to decide based on things like time of day or smartset
membership.

Manage/Unmanage

I know this question has been asked here before, but ......
I also am aware that official answer is that there is NO command line
interface for Unmanage/Manage.
Has anyone written any home grown code using the NetView API to
Unmanage/Manage objects?
I have tried these work-around scenarios without success.
1. I created a MAINT SmartSet with a polling interval of 1/year
when a node becomes a member of the SmartSet, it still uses original 5
minute polling interval.
This does not immediately change the polling interval and I get false
positives (node downs).
2. I have run xnmsnmpconf -update to change the polling interval to 1/year,
followed by -clearCache and -event.
This does not immediately change the polling interval and I get false
positives (node downs).
This method also causes netmon to get backed up while rebuilding the
cache.
If repeated several times, netmon can be backed up for hours!
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Don
