Rusdy,
The minimum requirement for ANY device to appear on a NetView map is,
that is has an IP address.
For NetView to know if a device is a switch it needs SNMP access to the
device.
You don't need Switch Analyzer to see switches in NetView.
Others on the list may be willing to tell you more on Switch Analyzer.

Bernard

Hi Bernard,
In order for switches to appear on the map, must they all be set an IP
for
each switch? My environment, I have a number of switches with no IPs
set and
those switches do not appear on the map. I'm wondering why? No problem
with
routers because they all are set to IPs. I heard about new product
Tivoli
Switch Analyzer. Must I use it? By the way, what's the Tivoli Switch
Analyzer all about? I have not tried it.
Pardon me for a simple question as I'm still new to NetView.
Thanks,
Rusdy

Subject: Re: [nv-l] Displaying devices in networks
Stefan,
Objects only appear in the IP Network View if NetView thinks they are
'Connectors' (Routers, Switches), if not they are put in the segment
view.
NetView checks the type via SNMP. It also uses definitions in the file
/usr/OV/conf/oid_to_type.
Should the objects you are referring to be in the IP Network View (are
they Router or Swidthes) ?
If so, check:
1. Does NetView have SNMP access to those devices
2. Is there an entry for those devices in the oid_to_type file

Bernard

Hi,
I have a question about how some objects are displayed inside the
NetView
map.
We have the problem that some objects which belong to a certain subnet
are
not displayed on the map when opening the appropriate IP Network
object.
We have fifteen devices inside this subnet, but only eleven of them
appear
inside the IP Network view. When opening the one segment object that
resides inside this IP Network, we can see all of the fifteen devices.
Any idea why some of them appear in the Segment view but are not
displayed
inside the IP Network?
Thanks,
Stefan
