Jane,
Right now we are using SEA. There is no restriction configured on the mibs
that are accessible. When I do a snmpwalk on the box it looks like I get
all the information (ip.ipAddrTable. ....) The only restriction configured
is on the hosts that can perform the snmp queries.
I tested with an other system with the same configuration and I get the
same result: Netview discover the interface but without snmp access. I will
have to run a trace to see if it stop on the same snmp variable.
is UCD any better than SEA ? (I know our Unix team doesn't like the idea of
using "non supported" software.)
as snmpwalk is able to read what look like all the mib, i suspect it's a
discovery problem .. (?)
any idea ?

Are you running SUN's own SEA agent or the UCD agent? Check the config of
the
agent. It looks to me like the agent maybe permits access to the system
part
of MIB2 but not other parts. This tends to be typical with the UCD agent.
You
will need to open access to all of MIB2 to get NetView to really think he
supports SNMP.
