Hi Alberto,
I see what you are refering to - I've never done the migration with the NetView topolgy database in SQL.  Do you actually have this?  I thought it was now seriously discouraged to have your topo database in SQL for performance reasons???

Unless you have a really good reason for this, my approach would be to follow P95 to revert the topo database to flat files, then backup (ie that backs up all your object/map/topo configuration database stuff) - your events and SNMP data are held outside the NetView filesystem in your Oracle database (but make sure you flush out any remaining data to these database tables before doing the upgrade).

I have no idea why it says to de-install NetView - I wouldn't have thought you needed to do that manually.  When you do an upgrade install, what it actually does in practise is a deinstall, new install, and reapply the backed up configuration, so I would try just doing a server update installation.

I would then be very tempted to skip points 5 - 7 and run my topology database in flat files, rather than in SQL.

Anyone else actually done this?
Cheers,
Jane

Hi Jane!

Thanks a lot for your answer. I have another problem with this.

Having a look at the release notes 7.1 on page 95, when it's said that migrating RDBMS from 6.x to 7.1, I don't know why it is necessary to de-install the netview program as it is said in the point 3. If it is an upgrade installation...why do I have to de-install de product?

An talking about the database. I have the topology information in Oracle 8.1.6. Are these the tables I have to convert into flat files?

-          topoinfo

-          networkclass

-          segmentclass

-          nodeclass

-          interfaceclass

-          objecttable

-          classtable

-          memberoftable

-          coupledwith

Thank's a lot for everything and regards from Spain

Hi Alberto,
I don't think this should be a "heavy answer".  You get the 7.1.2 CD.  Check whether any Op Sys pre-reqs have changed (don't THINK they did with Solaris).   You install the Tivoli NetView Framework patch upgrade 5.x/6.x -> 7.x.  You backup your existing 6.0.2 NetView from the Maintain menu on serversetup.  You install the NetView 7.1.2 server update.  That should upgrade your code and restore all your configuration automatically from the backup you took.  If you have the NetView database portion, install the upgrade for that.  Install the V7 Books.  Check the Install manual and Release Notes for any details I've forgotten, but that's the gist of it.

I've done it many times - should be easy.

Cheers,
Jane

Hi list again!

I know this will be a very heavy question, but does anyboydy have the steps to do the migration from 6.0.2 to 7.1.2 in Sun Solaris?

Anything you would tell me will be like a big present.

Thanks a lot in advanced.
