In using sed there should only be 4 backslashes not 6 if using double
quotes.
e.g. to strip backslashes use one of
echo 'hi\\3\4\'  |  sed -e "s:\\\\::"
echo 'hi\\3\4\'  |  sed -e 's:\\::'
