The Windows smartset editor  is not as robust as the one on UNIX.   The designer who built it did not allow for all the permutations you might want.
Since you have UNIX available,  I suggest that you use it to your advantage.
For your first problem I suggest that you
        (1) create your smartset on UNIX,
        (2) use nvUtil to display it's definition  ( nvUtil g <smartset_name> )
        (3) echo that to a file and ftp that file to your Windows box.
        (4) modify that file into a bat file that contains a smartsetutil  add command (smartsetutil a <name> <desc> <rule>) to create your smartset on Windows.

It may sound strange but I have done this myself  .
The syntax of these commands can be had just by typing them in on the command line without arguments.

Don't have access to UNIX?  Then your problem is much harder.  But here's an example which may help.  I had a smartset which contained all my DB2 servers.  I wanted one which has just those in subnet 9.42.10.0.  I put this command in  a bat file:

smartsetutil a DB2_Servers_in_subnet10 "DB2 Servers in 9.42.10.0.subnet" "((IN_SUBNET 9.42.10.0) && (IN_COLLECTION "IBM_DB2_Servers"))"

For your second problem I suggest that you not look for TMA=false but  !(TMA=true).  In other words, create a smartset on UNIX for all object that are not members of  your TMA=true smartset.  Then follow the above procedure to transfer that definition to Windows.  If you cannot do it on UNIX then use something similar to the example above and put a bang (!) in front of the (IN_COLLECTION . . .) operand.

Hope this helps

Subject:        [nv-l] Smartset on NetView for Windows question

Hi,

I have a few questions about smartsets that I am trying to create on Netview 7.1.3+fixpack1 on Windows 2000.

Firstly, I am trying to create a smartset with all devices that are on a certain subnet. I know I have achieved this on Netview for AIX. However, I can't seem to find a network option in the find screen under simple, there is only a Network name option under ip properties( I have a work around by manually selecting all the devices from the network that I am interested in and creating a collection). Has anyone done this on NV NT?

Secondly, I am running nvsniffer against the smartset created above to flag all machines that are running the Tivoli management agent( isTMA on port 9495). Once nvsniffer is complete  I update the logic in my smartset to only display all devices that have the isTMA set to true. I would also like to create a second smartset with all machines that don't have TMA loaded. How do I get it to display the devices that don't have the field isTMA. I can't do a isTMA=false since the devices that don't have TMA loaded don't have this field set yet?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Pritesh
