I'm not certain from your description just what you are attempting to do,
but it does not sound supported to me.

You really need to spend some time with the Admin Guide (you did install
the books, didn't you?) and read all about map customization.

Basically, you cannot COPY and paste items from one submap into another.
When you did that, I'll wager they showed up with a dark shadow behind
them, which makes them user symbols, to be managed by YOU, and not ipmap
symbols, to be managed by ipmap, which is why no connections were drawn.
That's what you see, isn't it? What you can do is CUT symbols and paste
them, if you want ipmap to treat them same as he did before the cut
operation.

Take a simple case. Give a small network of one router with three
interfaces and thus three networks. On the IP Map you create a location
symbol. If you copy one of those networks into it, that becomes something
you created. If you cut that same network and paste it into the location,
then it retains its identity as something ipmap created. When you drill
down it will be as though it had not been moved, and when you go up to the
IP Internet map again, the router will now connect to you location symbol
just as though it were the network that the location contains.

Note that NetView is not a drawing program. It will not let you customize
the map anyway you want. You must follow the rules if you want him to
manage (automatically update) what you have created, no matter what your
user wants to see. Not all permutations are permitted. That's why you
need to read the book.

Hope this helps

Thanks a lot for the info. If I cut and paste the
icons from the main submap, then the connections are
getting drawn automatically. But since, I am cutting
these icons from main submap they disappear. The user
wants to see all the icons in the main submap i.e IP
Internet map, and then see only the particular items
pertaining to the location, in the location submap.
That is why I am trying to copy and paste. But when I
am doing copy and paste the icons, the connections are
not getting drawn automatically. Is there any way I
can meet the user's requirement? That is have the same
icons in IP Internet map as well as in the location
map.

Thanks & Regards,

Raghunath
