I believe that the field is populated from the agent's support of the ifMIB: .1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.18 .iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.ifMIB.ifMIBObjects.ifXTable.ifXEntry.ifAlias HTH, David
Hi Oliver, Please ignore my previous reply to your note. I did not read your email properly where you specify that the custom interface information is stored in the SNMP ifAlias field....I do apologise! I cannot seem to find this field in the object database? Where is the ifAlias field updated? This question has been asked before on the forum. The response was that you could either write a script to retrieve and then do a bulk import in the ovwdb using nvdbimport or create the field upon discovering a new device and then insert the values for each interface. I would like to go the second route however I cannot seem to (after reading the Netview for unix programmers guide) understand the high level steps that need to be carried out to achieve this. This is quite important as the customer is trying to replace another "network management product" since they want to go the Tivoli route for network and systems monitoring and I would appreciate if someone can share their ideas on how to achieve this.
