The problem seems to have been fixed. And I think it useful to share with
the list.
Killing two orphan maptreeserver processes was key. And more importantly
increasing the size of jave VM from 64 to 128 did the trick. Increase memory
allocation for the Java VM by editing /usr/OV/www/bin/jetty.sh and:
Change -Xm64m to -Xm128m (Bottom of file)
Then restart the webserver.
Before this, java was taking up an average of 50% CPU on the Netview server.
Since modifying it has dropped significantly.

see if you don't have several maptree daemon still running (you should have
just one). I have seen this on 7.1.3 and 7.1.4 and when opening the web
console it looks like the map is opened twice. You need to kill the wrong
maptree (kill -9 is required) to solve the issue.

I've seen this, too. NV 7.1.3 and 7.1.4 on AIX 5.1, two different systems.
Recycling all the Netview daemons clears it up everytime. Hasn't been
bothersome enough to open a ticket, everything keeps right on chugging
regardless.

The web console can attach to any ovw process (native NetView console)
ot to any netviewd daemon (it is possible to have more than one netviewd
running). The RW or RO will be the permissions that the ovw / netviewd
process has on the map they have open. If you are saying that there are
apparently 2 RW connections to the map called Default available to
connect to, then I think you have a problem and I would call support. I
have seen problems in the past with netviewd "half" being there but this
may have been fixed.

As previously suggested, this could be physical comms or it could be
that the jetty webserver process has died or been stopped on the NetView
server.
