Well, exactly what is wrong would be hard to say, and you will probably
have to contact IBM Support Locally and open a problem to them.

But it sounds to me as though ipmap is coring, or otherwise going away
unexpectedly, but as there is code to automatically restart him while the
GUI is up, he gets restarted again. To verify this you can go look in
/usr/OV/PD/cores/ipmap and see whether there is a core file there. You
can also use ps -ef to determine the process id of ipmap before you start
the operation and afterward and see whether it has changed. If so, then it
has exited and been restarted. If any case, you should probably contact
Support.
They will want you to apply the latest FixPack for 7.1.3, FP03, if you
haven't already. And they will want you to do database maintenance,
ovtopofix -a (or _A) depending on how many maps you have, before
proceeding.

If you don't find a core file, then I would examine
/usr/OV/log/netview-root.log and see what you can learn about the problem
from there. That's where ipmap would write any error messages he might
have, along with the nettl facility. netfmt -f /usr/OV/log/nettl.LOG00 >
formatted.nettl.LOG00
will format the nettl file for you and allow you to look for ipmap issues.

In any case, this behavior is not normal and you will probably need help
from Support in solving the problem.

Hi, im running Tivoli Netview 7.1.3 on Solaris. Since like 3 weeks ago
when i try to add a new object manually the IP Map Option in the Add
Object dialog box disappears after Verifing the node info.
Funny thing is that it reappers again automatically after a while. Also a
strange thing is that the first time i try to add it and verify it, the
verifying dialog box window where you see the hostname,, ip and submask
field hangs out. After a while it pops up but in the field where it should
say info its ok or not, instead of that it says application didnt respond.
When i close it and try it to do it again thats when the IP Map option
disappears, what could be wrong???
