Hi
We are running Netview 7.1.4 (fixpack 3) on Linux Red Hat Enterprise
Server 2.1.
We are seeing a weird thing happening on our Netview server:
When a remote router fails over from its serial interface (primary
connection) to its ISDN interface (backup connection) - we sometimes see,
that Netview decides to delete the ISDN interface.
The deleted interface only reappears when the next configuration poll
occur or if we manually demand poll the device.
Here is an example from /usr/OV/log/trapd.log with our comments:
-- the serial interface goes down:
1117448852 3 Mon May 30 12:27:32 2005 router_NET N Backup line ACTIVE on
interface Dialer1 (10.199.6.198)

Dialer1 changed to " CONNECTED SERIAL_SEG ISDNBackup"
1117448852 3 Mon May 30 12:27:32 2005 router_NET N Interface Dialer1 up.

-- we do a manual demand poll of the router:

router_NET.
1117449277 1 Mon May 30 12:34:37 2005 router_NET N Interface added: 2
10.199.6.198 1117449277 2749 1061173
1117449278 3 Mon May 30 12:34:38 2005 router_NET N Backup line DORMANT on
interface Dialer1 (10.199.6.198)
1117449278 7 Mon May 30 12:34:38 2005 router_NET N Flags for Interface
Dialer1 changed to " CONNECTED SERIAL_SEG ADMIN_DOWN ISDNBackup"
1117449278 3 Mon May 30 12:34:38 2005 router_NET N Interface Dialer1
Administrative Down.
The above router is SNMP managed via its loopback interface - which is
reachable through the whole test - and the dialer interface ip address'
range is added to the netmon.seed file using the "+" prefix.
We discovered the problem on fixpack 1 but an upgrade to fixpack 2 and 3
didn't solve it.
Our primary concern with this behavior is, that the dialer interface
potentially could go down without anyone noticing, during the time where
it is missing in Netview.
Can anyone explain why this deletion/addition takes place ?
Best regards
