Becki,

I have learned a bit since my last post.  I was wrong about the ucdsnmp rpm in your case- as of fixpack 3 you can also have net-snmp and I just found out you are at fixpack 3.

The statements you posted and the level of net-snmp your are using also work in our lab environment at fixpack 2.  The are about to test fixpack3 and cycle through the test again.

The case is in good hands and so I will bow out from this on the list.

Regards,
Geo.

RE: [nv-l] Net-snmp on suse 9

You lost me in the first paragraph.  I'm following the release notes for the Linux installation.  I didn't get a choice on the snmp that was loaded on our suse 9 boxes, though the netview installer seemed happy about net-snmp being loaded.  are you saying the release notes, as to how to set up snmp, are wrong?

btw, this is opened as pmr 56724 422 000

TIA

Re: [nv-l] Net-snmp on suse 9

Becki,

mgragentd is a smux agent *and* a NetView daemon rolled into one.  I think the smuxpeer statement is required in snmpd.conf for net-snmp to talk to smux agents.  I also think you still want to have ovspmd spawn and monitor mgragentd (ovstart).  mgragentd will register with the master snmpd daemon and then handle its part of the local mib.

Other than than I can't comment since I'm unfamiliar with the package, other than it looks interesting.  Caution to not mix net-snmp's commands and NetViews in PATHs- that is, the execution path should find the appropriate command for the context in which it is being used.  More to the point, in a NetView context, the PATH should pick up the NetView executables first.

I know you know this, but it's worth saying for other folks on the list, that the release notes specify the use of the ucdsnmp as the rpm to be installed on SuSE Linux for NetView.

Geo.

[nv-l] Net-snmp on suse 9

Does anyone have net-snmp working on suse 9, instead of ucd-snmp?  This is for netview 7.1.4 fixpack 3.  If I put in the lines:

pass .1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.4.6.1 /bin/sh /usr/OV/bin/mgragentd
view system included .1

Snmp won't start up.  It starts up fine without these.

TIA
