As for the failing resource display, you could do this:

nvUtil e '(isNode=True) && (("IP Status" = "Marginal") || ("IP Status" = "Critical") || ("IP Status" = "Unreachable"))' '%Selection Name%,%IP Status%'

If you want to see interfaces, as the Failing Resource Display gives you, you could do it this way:

nvUtil e '(isInterface=True) && (("IP Status" = "Marginal") || ("IP Status" = "Critical") || ("IP Status" = "Unreachable"))' '%Selection Name%,%IP Address%,%IP Status%'

The Selection Name of the interface is nodename:ifdesc. So together these give you a quick report.

No and no.  WYSIWYG.  If you want to order the seed file you have to do it
outside the java editor

For failing resources however you could  try building a smartset using IP
Status = Critical or try your hand at report with nvdbformat

Is there a means of displaying the failing resource display in text format
from the cli

Is there a way to sort the seed file editors display in anyway like by ip
address so 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.2 etc etc
