Colin,

with the configuration you describe, how is the RO map owned by netviewd refreshed ?
After some new devices have been discovered, can the web console users see them ?

Cheers, Philippe.

RE: Fw: [nv-l] Read-Write Map Unavailable

Joel,

In my shop we set the netviewd daemon to run a read-only map for the web console users.  This allows us to open the AIX gui using the command netview (without the -dconsole).  What we did... (as usual, try in test first to ensure it does'nt mess anything else up :-))

ovstop netviewd
ovdelobj netviewd.lrf

Edit netviewd.lrf to look like the following (see highlighted  -ro)

netviewd:/usr/OV/bin/netviewd:
OVs_YES_START:nvsecd pmd ovwdb trapd ovtopmd ovactiond nvcorrd actionsvr nvserverd:-spmd 2 -ro:OVs_WELL_BEHAVED:30:

ovaddobj netviewd.lrf
ovstart netviewd

This allows us to open and close a read/write map from AIX without affecting our web-console users.

As to why it only started causing the problems you are experiencing, this week, - I cannot answer that

Enjoy...

Regs

Colin M.

Ok, but this just started this week. We were always able to run with just the nv6000 command previously. Do I need to disable the web console then to stop this?

netviewd always gets the map read-write unless you take it away from him.
The ovstatus shows it's no mystery who has it.
If you want to take the read-write map away from him, then start the GUI
with
    netview -d console

But if there are users on the web client, this will boot them off and they
will have to log back in.  They get whatever map netviewd has

Every time I open the NetView GUI, using nv6000, I get a read-only map. I
have killed all processes, booted all users, and even re-booted the box.
Map still comes up read-only. When doing an ovstatus immediately following
a re-boot, I get the following:

object manager name: netviewd
behavior:            OVs_WELL_BEHAVED
state:               RUNNING
PID:                 23478
last message:        Initialization complete, opened map 'default' as
Read-Write.
exit status:         -

How can I find out what's opening the Read-Write map and how can I stop it?
