Hi James,

I've installed NetView 7.1.4 in server mode only. Also I have WebConsole
clients using this server to view the map. As I mentioned, with the fresh
installation NetView works perfectly except for an issue, i.e. Event
forwarding to my Tivoli Enterprises console server is getting stalled once
or twice in a day. So I would be forced to run the script again for TEC
Event forwarding.

To address this issue, I've loaded FP03. After this only all the issues
mentioned in my below mail came up. So now I reverted back, but issues still
remains as same. So now the normal function of my Netview Server is got
stalled altogether.

"Waiting for Netmon on the server to respond" is the error I am getting
while I try to do a demand poll of any device. I observed this error comes
up immediately after the database change of FP03 and, without this change
netmon behaves normal even with FP03.

Regards, Senny

"Waiting for Netmon on the server to respond"?

Sounds to me as though you installed the NetView client when you should
have installed either the server or stand-alone.
The standard installation is stand-alone.
You install the server only if you want to have other people install
NetView on their machines and share your map, with the daemons running on
your machine but not on theirs.
The client is the other half of the server piece and should only be
installed after the server has been installed and is up and running.

I'd remove NetView and start over. But go slowly. You should be able to
get 7.1.4 working right out of the box. Then you can install FixPacks and
get SNMPv2 trap support working. And I wouldn't be bashful about calling
Support. That's what they are there for.

If this doesn't help, then a call to Support is in order.

Hi,

I am a new user of IBM Tivoli using Netview 7.1.4 on Windows 2003 Platform.
I have upgraded Netview with FixPack 03 straight away without FP01 & FP02
and installation went on without any issue. Also I've done changes like
SNMP V2 support (Through Registry) for Netview and database changes as per
the FP03 release document.

After the change of database, I found some inconsistency with Netmon
daemon. I see the all daemons on Netview daemons are running properly but
not changing the status (Like down, inaccessible etc) of any of my devices
in my Netview Map. Whenever I do any demand poll, it keeps saying "Waiting
for Netmon on the server to respond". So I copied the database back with
the original one. Again I don't see any network trap events being picked up
by Netview saying interface down or unreachable. So I reverted SNMPV2
support too.

Even after the rollback the problem was persisting. So I entirely reverted
back, now it is Netview 7.1.4 without any FixPack. But still could not see
any positive sign.

Since Netview server was running properly without FP03, except for event
forwarding problem to TEC Server, I believe the problem should be somewhere
with FP03 installation.

Did anyone come across with this problem? If so, could you please help me
in fixing this issue?

Regards,
Senny
