That's what I thought you might be getting at, John, but I needed to make
sure.

If you were to try adding the nodes in xnmtrap and then go look at
trapd.conf, you'd see it's just a list, one host to a line. So all you need
is a simple text file, listing the hosts one per line. Create a file like
that and use the full path of that file in xnmtrap instead. And yes, it's
easier to maintain a file if you have a lot of entries.

I don't know offhand of any limitations. I once tried it with at least 100
hostnames and it worked, but that's been many years ago. The critical
thing is going to be that you have the hostname in the file the way it will
be resolved by trapd, the way it appears in trapd.log.

Hi James..

I think I used incorrect term should of been xnmtrap (trapd.conf)...

in xnmtrap > Modify Event > Source ... you can add only the host names of
interest and all others are ignored. The second way to do this is to define
it through a text file, which is what I am interested in (easier to
manage/maintain), and trying to determine if there is a limitation in the
number of hosts that can be defined in this option

ovaction filter? The term doesn't ring a bell with me, which probably means
it is a seldom-used feature these days.
What is that you are trying to do, John?

Hello All..

Does anyone know of or has encountered a limitation on the number of hosts
that can be defined in a filter list ? and if the filter list needs to be a
csv foramt, or new line list ?

Runing NV 7.1.4 FP3 on AIX 5.3

Thanks
John
