Netview is an SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) manager for network equipment. It polls for status using ICMP (ping) and SNMP. It receives traps (SNMP). The only way it can interact with IPMI, or DMTF for that matter, is if the implementations of those protocols include an SNMP component. As I understand it, IPMI is intended to replace the vendor-specific hardware agents, like Dell OpenManage, and IBM Director, with a common hardware agent, and converge or interoperate somehow with DMTF, CIM, etc for higher-level server management. Those existing agents do have SNMP sub-agents, and Netview will interact with them via SNMP. But Netview does not have the ability to talk any other protocols but SNMP and ICMP. In the broader enterprise management scheme of things, I would expect the management application for IPMI for servers to participate with the network management tools at the event level. That event management system might be Tivoli Enterprise Console, or Netcool Omnibus Objectserver or something else. Cordially, Leslie A. IPMI (Intelligent platform Management Interface) is a protocol from Intel which is used to fetch the server information. I wanted to know how best we can use this in Tivoli. Any one who has tried Tivoli with IPMI before?
