I might also add that you there is no mention of whether you want all of
the selected traps passed on to the external program, or if only those
selected traps that meet other criteria (such as specific hostnames or
varbind values) should be forwarded. This would also make a difference in
how this might be accomplished.

You haven't provided enough information to answer this question in detail.
What is the external program and what form does it want the information in?
Is it on the same machine or some other one?
In binary, like the trap comes off the wire, unformatted by NetView?
Or do you want to extract certain detail and pass them to a program through
an API, as
for example:
myprogram.exe "hostname trap is about" "varbind1 in ascii" "varbind2 in
ascii" and so on
If the latter then you can configure that in trapd.conf using Trap Settings

What is the _simplest_ way to perform the following:
[1] NV receive specific Trap; and
[2] NV pass Trap details to an external program?
That is the entire extent of what we need to do with a small subset of
Traps.
What do you think?
