Thanks James,

As mentioned in my original mail, I did assume this, but thought I'd ask anyway. I did a /USR/OV/ALL backup to get a complete backup (not sure if anything was really gained over doing  /USER/OV/ALL.USER for the purpose of migrating to a new server). My customisations in the /usr/OV/snmp_mibs were also migrated. (I hope these don't have to be reloaded).

The reason I am initially migrating to the same level of software is to quickly replace the existing failing hardware as quickly and smoothly as possible without having to test a new version. Each time I have applied a FixPack or upgrade, we have experienced a number of problems that need further fixes. I just want to get these boxes up as quickly as possible and then plan migration to 7.1.4.

Many Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Sue

RE: [NV-L] Migrating Netview 7.1.3 from Solaris 7 to Solaris 8 or 9

You are talking about apples and oranges, Sue. Migrations don't migrate NetView code, just user stuff.

When you do a migration install, it is your customizations in /usr/OV/conf and your databases which are preserved, not the executable code. That's what comes off the CD. So if you did a migration install of 7.1.3 using the standard base level CD, then your migrated system is at the 7.1.3 base level, with no FixPacks. To get the right level of code you must then apply the latest FixPack for 7.1.3, which is FP04. Then your new system will have current code for 7.1.3.

I don't suppose I have to mention that you should now consider how you will move forward to 7.1.4 and then 7.1.5. There are no more fixes being produced for 7.1.3. And there is no migration path to 7.1.5 from 7.1.3 directly. You must go to 7.1.4 first, no matter how briefly, in order for the migration install of 7.1.5 to work correctly.
