Hello Krishna,

IBM management does not permit me to take customer problems directly off the nv-l list nor by private e-mail. If you desire my assistance, then you must open a problem to IBM Level 2 for NetView. If they cannot assist you, then you will be routed to me. What I am allowed to do is to simply offer advice on the public forum. I think you can understand why this must be so. I have to account for my time by working on problems which are assigned to me through channels.

Having said that, I will tell you my opinion, but in the future, please use the list. I think your MIB conversion from SNMPv2 to SNMPv1 is not correct, or at least not complete. Counter32 is an SNMPv2-only construct. It was added to differentiate between 32-bit counters and 64-bit counters, which are type Counter64. Counter64 variables have no SNMPv1 counterpart, but Counter32 variables do. You need to change all occurrences of Counter 32 to just Counter in your converted MIB.

If you are going to continue to try to modify MIBs in this fashion, I'd also like to recommend a source for to read. The best one I know of is Understanding SNMP MIBs by Perkins and McGinnis, Prentice Hall PTR, 1997. They have detailed check lists you can follow for properly converting an SNMPv2 MIB to SNMPv1 and SNMPv1 to SNMPv2. Or you can get tools off the web which you can install that will do the conversion for you, though I have none to recommend.

Alternatively you can upgrade to NetView Version 7.1.5 which has a java-based MIB data collector (nvcollectord) that will collect SNMPv2 data without conversion.

Query on Data Collection using SNMPv2 MIB

Hai James

I have an query on Data Collecting , I have loaded SNMPv2 MIB in my Netview 7.1.4 Server on Windows machine , using loadmibv2 command and I was ablw to view my MIB Object using browserv2 , but my MIB object lable was not complete it had some integers like ..iso.org.private.enterprise.124345.3.4….so wat I did is again created an Dummy MIB file that support SNMPv1 and included all the Object Identifier in that file and I also loaded it in snmpmib. But now wen I select Collect Data in Tool>MIB>Collect Data , I am getting an error as …

Collector can only collect numeric values for this MIB. The collection was not added because the type is Partial Object Name .were this Partial Object Name is the type of that particular parameter for which I need to collect data , how can I change this to INTEGER / COUNTER…but in MIB files its type is shown as GAUGE32..

Plz Advice .

with regards
Krishna
