While we are on the subject of SNMP oddities. This is NOT a NetView problem, but, I thought All on AIX would be interested in this one. I discovered this one when I rebooted my NetView server for the DST "TZ" environment variable change needed for this weekend. I am running on AIX 5.2-ML06 and am not able to apply all the patches to AIX required for DST. I had turned SNMP logging on at one time to try to diagnose a problem with the following settings : logging file=/trace/snmpd.log enabled logging size=0 level=3 When I was finished, I simply changed enabled to disabled, mistakenly thinking this would turn logging off. logging file=/trace/snmpd.log disabled logging size=0 level=3 Changing enabled to disabled stops writing the data to the file but does NOT stop logging. I rebooted the server with a terminal (Cyclades Terminal Server) connected to tty0. When the server came up to the Login: prompt I discovered that all of the SNMP traps being received by NetView were being spewed to the console port. It took me a while to figure out what was happening. I blindly typed stopsrc -s snmpd and the spewing stopped. When I restarted SNMP the spewing started again. To stop the incoming traps from being written to the console, logging must be commented out completely like this. #logging file=/trace/snmpd.log enabled #logging size=0 level=3 Hope this helps someone prevent a little grief. I was in panic mode for a few minutes. Regards.
