That depends on what you are trying to do. If all you want to do is define traps, then all you need do is run mib2trap, and then the resulting addtrap script.
The only reason to load the MIB with xnmloadmib2 is to see what it defines in the browser and perhaps to query the device which supports it. But sometimes running xnmloadmib2 before mib2trap will help determine the soundness of the MIB you are using. If you can't load it, then for certain mib2trap cannot parse it.

Do I need to run xnmloadmib/2 or can I just run mib2trap? What difference does it make if I do or don't run xnmloadmib initially?
