Regarding setting the status of things to Unmanaged automatically: Usually when
people
think about doing this it is because they have discovered a lot of things that
they either don't
want, or which they want, but want them unmanaged most of the time. I usually
make an effort
to eliminate the first group with a really restrictive seedfile (see the Admin
guide). Then I
configure certain OIDs, or non-snmp nodes to be discovered unmanaged (in
oid_to_type,
put the record 'DEFAULT_IP: : :U with blanks between the :s). As a convenience
for
re-unmanaging stuff, I usually have a collection called 'Unmanage_these' and
put all of the
oddball stuff in it. Sometimes I have another collection called 'Manage_these'
as well. As an
aid in creating those collections ( of type Object List), I use the Add from
Map feature. To get
things selected on the map in the first place, I use the netview Locate
function; this gets things
highlighted; then View...Highlights...Select Highligts. That gets stuff
selected. Netview tricks...
HInt: if the list is too long to fit in a collection rule, the stuff should
probably not be discovered
in the first place.

Cordially,
