shutdown scripts

Hi all,

I have got scripts that have to be executed during (before) shutdown
i.e. oracle db.
What do you fellas think about editing the /usr/sbin/shutdown script ?
Are there defined scripts that the system uses before shutdown (like the
rc.* files during startup ) ?
