These both sound like user issues to me. So there is nothing to fix
really.

1. If the events display hangs, look for rulesets in ESE.automation which
contain the inital node set to "PASS" (all events) or which have Forward or
Resolve nodes in them. These actions cannot be exceuted in the background
as the daemons which execute them have no display. I believe that in 4.1
PNV the ESE.automation file was mistakenly shipped with the forwradall.rs
ruleset in it, which would hang the display in no time.

2. If you get messages about being unable to allocate colors, then you
have some other application which is grabbing them all. One such is
Netscape. The solution is to either not start Netscape before you start
the NetView GUI, or to start Netscape with the -install option, which gives
him a private color map all his own. If the problem only occurs when you
have the CDE up, then you should use the Style menu and allocate more
colors to the desktop (that sounds backwards but it allows the CDE to
better distribute them to the competing applications).

The problem are:

- somtimes the event application seems to be frozen (that is, no new
events are shown in the event list)

- when starting the EUI sometimes a message appears that says some
colors could not be added. Certain colors will then be missing from
the map.
