Because .Xdefaults is only read at startup of X.  For speed, X resources are
stored in a memory resident datbase.  .Xdefatulst is thus only read at
startup.  This is standard behavior.

Hi,

I've noticed the necessity to run the "xrdb -load .Xdefault" to
pull in changes to the .Xdefaults without logging out/in.   Why is
this?
