Hello.
I have a couple of questions regarding a Netview 5.1/Framework 3.6
Implementation....
1. How stable is the Netview 5.1 / Framework 3.6 s/w? Would it be best to go
with the latest versions of each or, for example, NV 5.1 and Framework 3.2, or
any other combo? Also, which, if any, patches are required for a NV 5.1/FW 3.6
implementation?
2. I would like to use AIX 4.2.1 as the OS but, I am considering AIX 4.3. Are
there any issues with NV 5.1/FW 3.6 and AIX 4.3?
Would it be better to use AIX 4.2.1? Also, what patches for AIX 4.3 are
needed?
3. My implementation scenario is as follows..
I will have two NV paltforms. One will monitor all of my hubs, routers,
etc. The other will monitor all of my servers.
In case on NV crashes, I want to be able to make the other one 'view'
everything, i.e. hubs, routers, & servers, as quickly,
effectively, and automatically as possible. I have two ideas to
do this:
(i). Have three seed files. One which 'encompasses' just
routers, hubs, etc on the first NV machine. Another
seedfile which just 'encompasses' servers on the second
NV machine. And finally, a third seedfile which
'encompasses' everything. Then, when either NV machine
goes down, just implement the third seedfile on the
remaining machine.
(ii). Let the seed file for both NV machines 'encompass'
everything, but hide all servers on the map of the first NV
machine and hide all routers, hubs, etc on the map of
the second machine. Also, limit polling and traps on the
hidden objetcs on ech machine to reduce traffic.
Then, if one machine goes down, 'unhide' the objects on the
remaining machine and incorporate ALL traps and increase
polling. I guess I will have to use three trap configs in
a similar manner to the three seedfiles in (i)?
Any info/advice would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Sean Goldsworthy.
