  Take a look at the process monitoring capability in the Empire
  SystemEDGE system and application management SNMP agent.
  SystemEDGE will monitor critical processes, send up a trap on
  failure, automatically take corrective action (like restarting
  the failed process and paging or emailing your sysadmin), and
  then re-aquire the restarted process to start monitoring it again.
