I should also mention that we have several third party apps running
under our NetView, such as CicsoWorks (which uses a Sybase database),
Distributed sniffer, etc. If there is an absolute save way to accomplish
this I'm all for it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's necessary to stop
all interfaces and daemons to run an ADSM backup : I think stopping
netmon and snmpCollect is enough, and I believe the GUI can be running.
